Galiny Palace is a 16th century estate, set within hectares of meadows and forests. The stud farm has over 70 horses and extensive stabling and training facilities. Riders of all abilities are welcome at Galiny. Beginner and novice riders can have lessons in one of the many arenas, whilst more experienced riders can improve their skills in flatwork exercises and gridwork and jumping classes. Experienced riders can also enjoy hacks through the estate.

The palace has a double U shape, and is surrounded by an enormous park. The building underwent several enlargements and modifications during the 18th century; its present shape being established in the time of the third generation of the Grassalkovich family. By then the building had 8 wings, and - besides the residential part - it contained a church, a theatre, a riding-hall , a hothouse, a greenhouse for flowers and an orangery.
After the male side of the Grassalkovich family died out in , the palace had several owners, and in it was bought for the crown. The decision of parliament designated it the resting residence of the King of Hungary. During this period the palace became the symbol of independent Hungarian statehood, and, as a residential centre it had a political significance of its own.
She was able to converse fluently in Hungarian. Following her tragic death , a memorial park adjoining the upper-garden was built. The period of the royal decades also brought their enlargements and modifications.
The suites were made more comfortable, and a marble stable and coach house were built. The riding hall was remodelled. No significant building took place during this period, apart from an air-raid shelter in the southern front garden. After the palace, like many other buildings in Hungary , fell into decay.

The protection of the palace as a historical monument started in , when the National Board for Monuments launched its palace project. The most important tasks of preservation began in and were completed in the end of During this time the palace was partly emptied. By the Soviet troops left the southern wing, then the old people's home was closed down.
Research was carried out in the archives and in the building, and thus the different building periods of the monument were defined. Painted walls and rooms were uncovered which revealed the splendour of the th centuries. Architectural structures were discovered, and so were the different structures of the park. The utilisation of the main front wings of the palace was designed as a clear and well-developed architectural project.
The first floor's 23 rooms nearly sq. The emphasis was laid on the revival of the atmosphere of the royal period and the introduction of the time of the Grassalkovich family. Each month the chef offers new seasonal dishes according to the fresh produce available at the time. Lunches and dinners are chosen from a set menu. The nature of this estate means that guests can spend every day differently if their wish, according to their needs.
The cycle of the seasons, so naturally associated with the estate, is really the only restriction which exists. There are a variety of activities available including: - autumn trips to the nearby forests, a delight for walkers and experienced mushroom pickers! Krutynia River Trail approx 70km - beautiful kayaking trails with over km of routes. Malbork Castle - this 13th century castle belonged to the Teutonic Knights and is actually the largest castle in the world!
Swieta Lipka approx 30km - a village known for its pilgrimage church, a great example of Baroque architecture. Lidzbark Warminski approx 20km - this town has been called 'the Pearl of Warmia' and is home to the Warmian Bishop's Castle, recognised by the government as an important historic monument.
Olsztyn approx 70km - this is the nearest large city to the estate, home to many interesting sites and plenty of shops. Mikolajki - this old church town dates back to and is very popular with tourists. Ketrzyn Zamek - a Teutonic castle from 14th century, now a museum. Age limit: Children aged 13 and older can be accepted on the trail programme if they are confident and experienced riders.
Children under this age are welcome to take part in the flexible and jumping training programmes instead. Tuition: Yes, if desired. General riding lessons are available inc. You will explore nearby points of interest on horseback whilst spending the rest of your time relaxing or enjoying other activities on the estate grounds.
The rides include all paces and are a great way to experience this part of Poland! The programme requires a minimum of four participants to run. In the event that there are not enough riders to run the programme, you can still go on two hour rides twice a day, but riding will only be possible on estate grounds rather than further afield.
Day 1: Arrival at the hotel where a Warmian style lunch or dinner will be waiting for you. You will have a chance to get to know the staff who will be taking care of you during your stay and you can take a look around the estate. If you arrive in time for lunch then you will spend the afternoon visiting the stables and having two hours of introductory riding in the menage to prepare you for the rides to come - this will help the riding instructors to find you the perfect horse.
If you arrive later, only in time for dinner, then your introductory ride will be moved to the next morning. In this case you will receive some riding and a lunch on your departure day to ensure that you still have plenty of hours. Days 2 - 6: Each day begins with a delicious buffet breakfast before you head to the stables for your trail rides.
Every day you will ride to different points of interest on a journey of approximately 30km, the whole trip taking around six hours including breaks. Lunch will be served in each different location and then you will return to the estate for dinner and overnight each day. The places you will ride to are as follows:. Sulowo Village : This is quite an intense ride, following old hunters' paths through the forests and meadows surrounding the estate.
After approximately three hours of riding and sightseeing you will reach the old village of Sulowo where you will stop for lunch in a restaurant. There will be time to rest up a bit before mounting your horse and heading back to the estate. Sanctuary of Stoczek Klasztorny: You will prepare the horses for today's ride, a trail including all paces and plenty of active riding through Warmia's countryside.
You will head to Stoczek Klasztorny, a 17th century sanctuary in the Baroque style. During the ride you will see many small churches located on the roadside which is very characteristic of the Warmia region.
Today's lunch will be prepared by monks at the monastery and you will be able to relax in the monastery gardens before making your way back to the stables. Krawczyki: Today's beautiful ride leads you to the village of Krawczyki which belonged to the Denhoff family from the 16th - 20th century. Lunch will be served in one of the local guest farms. Wegoryty: After a hearty breakfast you will saddle your horses for a ride to the small village of Wegoryty.
Lunch will be served on a local farm which is famed for it's delicious vegetable pates. Sarnowo: The ride today always brings a smile as you make your way to Sarnowo village.
You pass many small churches beside the trail which are characteristic of Warmia's landscape. Lunch is in a beautifully restored court from the early 20th century, before returning to Galiny.
On reaching the estate you can look forward to a traditional dinner together, a great way to end a hopefully unforgettable week. Day 7: Today is sadly your day of departure. If you enjoyed lunch and riding on your arrival day, then you are free to depart after a final breakfast. If you only arrived in time for dinner on arrival day, then you are invited to use up your few hours of riding tuition and a lunch before you leave.
After saying farewell to new friends, both four-legged and two-legged, it will be time to head back to the airport, hopefully with great memories from your riding holiday in Poland. Note: All programmes and itineraries are weather dependent; in the face of adverse, or unexpected, weather conditions reasonable attempts will be made to provide equivalent riding.
