He pooped it out this morning and seems okay, but I can't help feeling a little concerned. He's a little guy--only 7lbs. Any experience? I can honestly say this has never happened to me. But thanks for sharing, I got a bit of a laugh I can say no My boy is just a year old and pounds. But my experience with dogs eating things is if they pass it with out a problem then your in the clear.

I only worry if it doesnt come out then I fear a blockage. If little guy passed it whole then no worries! I think he should be fine. My dog eats socks all the time and they just come out the other end in a few days. He's much larger though, about 60lbs. As long as it came out he should be fine. If you notice that he's become lethargic, isn't pooping, or is vomiting I would take him to the vet.

I've done a lot of research on this. I used to panic whenever the dog would eat a sock. If he already passed it then he'll be fine. I think the biggest thing you'd worry about in that case is a blockage, especially since your dog is so tiny. Thank goodness I'm not the only one! Didn't matter if it was used or not, he was chowing down. Doesn't seem to have any lasting effects, except that we still have to make sure there are no rubber bands anywhere! He will be fine. My dog 40 pounds ate an entire plastic dog bowl and popped it out over 3 days and she's fine.

If it makes you feel better He swallowed a balloon not a condom. To this day, we still don't know where it came from. We called our vet and he said he'll be fine. Thanks for the support everyone! He seems to be doing fine. And Moonride, FH just died at that comment. I worked at a dog kennel in high school. One of our "regulars" once ate a used tampon. Moonride-- that is nasty!! I don't currently own a dog my dearly beloved dachshund died when I was seven and I've never quite been able to get over the heartbreak , but I just had to pop in to say this thread has been cracking me up.

Thanks for the laughs ladies, and long life and health to your doggies. Regardless of scenarios like this I still want a dog when we buy a home. Glad your guy is okay!!

He'll be okay as long as it's already passed. It's when it's inside that you have to worry. And that is hilarious. Pibb ate one of his bow ties it has a metal hook to clasp together and pooped it out in perfect condition besides the poop. Not tips or tears. No blood in the stool. I consider that talent. So I think you are probably safe. Though I'm sure a call to the vet would help calm your nerves. It hasn't happened to us, but I'm sure you aren't the first in the world!

Our Fiona ate one once. FH was stalking her poop for days because for some reason when we lived at our old house, my FFIL would come over and pick up her poop all of the time and FH did NOT want him to find it. I have a Jack Russell about 10months old. I threw a used condom into the garbage and he somehow fished it out and swallowed it in a matter of seconds!! Due to his size and the fact that it was a magnum is it still possible that it will go through his system?

I called the vet and they told me just to watch him but I am concerned. Does anyone know of anything that I can give him to make him vomit it out? It's already past his stomach and into the intestines.

Do NOT induce vomiting! Your vet gave you correct advice. As long as the condom is moving through, your dog won't have any symptoms or trouble. If it gets stuck, your dog will be very noticeably bloated and ill. At that point it's an emergency and surgery likely needed.

Try to stay calm and keep an eye on him. Oh yeah, and buy trash cans with self-closing lids. My rottie, 1 year old, ate a condom last night out of the trash.

She seems okay, but had diarrhea this morning and has been eating a lot of grass lately. How long does it take for the condom to pass? If I dont see it come out by tomm. I am thinking of taking her to the vet. Any advice? Next Page. Notify me of new activity on this question.

As the subject says, my 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier just ate a condom out of the trash. What should I do? Will he just poop it out, do I need to induce vomiting?

It's Saturday night so the vet is closed, I'm looking everywhere on the net for advice. I'd call my girlfriends dad who is a dog expert but Edit: My dog did actually eat a condom, but I already called a vet, I'm just looking to see if anyone on the forums has had this happen to them before. As long as he's not choking on it, he should be fine The problem is, my dog goes over there all the time to play with their dog, and poops in the back yard.

Damn, I've really worked myself into a pickel. Man, I don't even know what to suggest! There has got to be a 24hr vetrinarian service somewhere. Check your phonebook yellowpages. There's usually one. If you care about the dog THAT much, call the g'fs father I'm not that stupid. Just making light of a funny but bad situation.

Call a local er vet for advice. You don't need to take her in, just ask the person who answers the phone. Odds are it will pass through just fine I mean come on My dog has eaten parts of plastic bag and they just come out, my suggestion is feed it meat like hell, then keep it in your house until it poops it out so your GF's dad doesn't see it.

Edit: I wonder why your dog ate it? I've been waiting for a call back from the vet from the answering about it You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community.

My dog ate my (just used) condom! | AnandTech Forums: Technology, Hardware, Software, and Deals

Your dog has a dirty little secret: he or she is obsessed with your most intimate personal items. To them, your used tampons, sanitary pads, condoms, and dirty underwear are like forbidden candy. But this habit is more than just gross and creepy, it can be downright life-threatening. If your dog ate a tampon or other personal care product, contact your veterinarian immediately!

Diapers, tampons, sanitary napkins, and toilet paper are designed to absorb liquids. When swallowed, they immediately begin to soak up the gastric juices in the digestive tract and swell in size and density. Unused and high absorbency tampons are especially dangerous. Even the tiny string attached to a tampon can cause serious damage if it becomes tangled or tears away at the lining of the esophagus or intestines.

Items like condoms and menstrual cups are non-absorbent, but may still pose a threat. According to Dr. Claire Jenkins of the online veterinary consultation site, VetChat , it often comes down to size; both of the dog and the item.

Dogs explore the world through their mouths and noses. They are scavengers by nature. Wild canines prefer live prey, but will also scavenge for carrion when necessary. Chances are your pooch loves to snuggle up on your discarded hoodie, especially if you just got home from the gym. To your dog, your unique aroma is the best smell on earth, and nothing carries your scent better than bodily fluids.

If you know your dog ate a tampon or other personal care product, call the animal hospital right away. Know the symptoms and act accordingly. Dogs can be pretty sneaky, so there is a chance you may not catch them in the act. If your dog ate a tampon on the sly, you will need to recognize the signs of illness that accompany an intestinal blockage.

These may include:. If your pup seems ill or you just cannot shake your anxiety, head to the vet. Intestinal blockage is no joke! Try keeping your products out of reach of any paws, or invest in those handy safety locks people use for childproofing. If your pup likes eating used sanitary products cringe get a trash can with a lid. Anything to keep your pup safe! Crack all of the jokes.
